Born in the English Yorkshire Dales, I have been fortunate to live and work in the Great Lakes area of America and in New Zealand. Additional travels in Europe, America and the Caribbean add to my store of experiences and images. I currently live in Florida, near the Gulf of Mexico.
I am a self-taught artist, turning seriously to my studies and practice at the age of 60. I paint in oils and acrylics, moving from still-life through landscapes and into abstract works. Occasionally, two genres will blend as in some of the abstract-landscape paintings.
I believe that viewing art enriches our lives, in the same way that listening to music and reading a good book do. With that in mind, I also sing and write fiction. Limited quantities of my novel "Over the Hills" set on the Yorkshire / Lancashire border around 1970, is available through the 'Fiction' tab above.
I have been a singer and performer since 1967, appearing on television and radio in both England (BBC) and America (NPR). I see many similarities between developing as a painter and my experiences as a folk-singer / performer.
